Glatiramer acetate injection is an FDA-approved generic prescription medicine indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease, in adults.

It is available in two dosing options, as prescribed by your healthcare provider: 20 mg/mL once daily or 40 mg/mL three times per week, at least 48 hours apart. The 20 mg/mL and 40 mg/mL doses are not interchangeable.

The mechanism by which glatiramer acetate works in patients with MS is not fully understood. It is thought to act by modifying immune processes believed to be involved in MS.
